Updated Thursday, June 5th
The new record is finished.
Whew.
It's called "The Moon", and will be released late August / early
September as the debut album from Elkhart - which is what we've decided
to christen ourselves moving forward.
Jarad, Mike, and I have been playing together for about 2 years now -
with Sam on board for the past 8 months or so - and this thing we have
going has progressed beyond the little Travis Hopper band (which,
truthfully, always made me really uncomfortable. "What's your band
called?" "Travis Hopper." "Nice - does anyone besides your ego like
that name?" "No.") There may be some additional parts added down the
road, but for now, the four of us are Elkhart.
As for "The Moon" - we recorded with Salim Nourallah at his Pleasantry
Lane Studio, tracking drums, bass, and guitar live for the entire record
in three 4-hour sessions at the end of December. In January and
February we did guitar and keys overdubs, and in April, we cut vocals.
In March we did a whole lot of nothing. The record was mixed in May,
and is now awaiting its trips to be mastered and pressed.
The sounds you'll hear were - by and large - created by the four of us,
but we did enlist the help of a few people that made it (infinitely)
better. Eric Pulido (Midlake) and Kevin Minihan (Eastwood) each
provided celestial backing vocals. It may be hard to discern their
voices since they sound like a cross between a gothic choir and angels,
but it's them. And Salim - as usual - lent his tasty harmonies and
skills on the keys.
Anyways - there will be much more to come throughout the summer, I'm
sure - but we wanted to give you a little update since it's been pretty
silent around these parts for awhile.
Moving forward, you'll find our updates on www.myspace.com/elkhartband
(until we get a proper website up and running).
Come check it out, be our friend, and have some good, clean interweb
fun. We'll have some shows this summer, and definitely a good run of
them in the fall. And if you'd like to book us for a show, just contact
us through our MySpace. We're always up for playing places other than
the same few, loud, smokey bars and places that we go to drink to much
and make a bunch of bad decisions.
So, that's all we've got for now. In the meantime, have a kick ass
summer...and, you know, whatever else.
